The Only Hong Kong Itinerary You Need as a First Timer
Let's be honest β Hong Kong is one of those cities that looks overwhelming on paper but is actually easy to navigate. Skyscrapers stacked against harbor views, world-class theme parks, street food around every corner, and a walkable city center that makes getting around genuinely enjoyable. The trick is knowing how to sequence it all.
This 5-day, 4-night Hong Kong itinerary gives you a day-by-day framework that covers the highlights without wasting a single morning. Ganito lang 'yan! π
Day 1: Arrival and Settling Into the City βοΈ
A morning flight into Hong Kong is what I usually recommend. Getting in early means you actually have usable hours on Day 1 instead of losing half the day to transit and check-in.
β Getting from the Airport to the City
Skip the taxi and take the A21 bus from Hong Kong International Airport to the city center. It's affordable, reliable, and drops you off at key stops across Kowloon β no need to overthink it. You can use your Octopus Card to pay for the HKD34.60 bus fare.
β Where to Stay: Tsim Sha Tsui
Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) is the ideal base for a first-time Hong Kong visit. It sits right at the southern tip of Kowloon, putting you within walking distance of the harbor, the Avenue of Stars, major shopping streets, and easy MTR access to everywhere else on the itinerary.
One solid option in the area is Dash Living on Pratt, bookable on Agoda. Use promo code HEYIANCHOTEL for up to 10% off your hotel booking.
π‘ Pro Tip: To claim your Agoda promo code, open the Agoda app, tap Deals, and type in the promo code before completing your booking. Or you can just tap the code links here and they get saved in your app automatically!
Spend the rest of Day 1 getting your bearings β grab dinner near the hotel, walk the TST waterfront, and rest up for a full day ahead.
Day 2: Hong Kong Disneyland β¨
Clear the whole day for Hong Kong Disneyland. It's more compact than other Disney parks worldwide, which means it's actually very manageable in a single day β but only if you pace it well and stay late.
β Tickets and Meal Vouchers
Book your Disneyland tickets and 3-in-1 meal vouchers through Agoda for the best value. The meal vouchers are genuinely worth it β they cover a set of meals (lunch, snack, and dinner) across the park and save you from paying full price at each restaurant individually. Use promo code HEYIANC on Agoda Activities for an extra 5% off. This can be used up to 5X per account!
β Don't Leave Before Momentous
The nighttime spectacular Momentous is the headline show at Hong Kong Disneyland β a full projection, fireworks, and drone light show over the castle. It runs in the evening and it's the kind of thing that makes the whole day feel complete. Stay for it. It's worth every minute of the wait.
Day 3: Victoria Peak π
Day 3 is for the view that Hong Kong is most famous for. Victoria Peak sits 552 meters above the city and offers one of the most recognizable skyline panoramas anywhere in Asia.
β The Peak Tram and Sky Terrace 428
Take The Peak Tram β the historic funicular railway that's been running since 1888 β up to the summit. From there, head up to Sky Terrace 428, the highest viewing platform in Hong Kong, for unobstructed 360-degree views of the harbor, Kowloon, and the South China Sea on a clear day.
β Bakehouse at the Peak
While you're up there, swing by Bakehouse β a beloved Hong Kong bakery with an outpost at the Peak. Their egg tarts are legendary, with a flaky, buttery pastry shell that puts standard convenience store versions to shame. The view from the seating area is also very nice!
Day 4: Tsim Sha Tsui Free Photo Spots πΈ
Day 4 is your low-cost, high-reward day β a wander through Tsim Sha Tsui's best free spots with some of the best photo opportunities Hong Kong has to offer.
β K11 Musea

Start at K11 Musea, the art-meets-retail complex right on the Victoria Harbour waterfront. Head up to the upper floors for a clean, elevated view of the harbor and the Hong Kong Island skyline across the water. The building itself is worth exploring β it's a genuinely impressive piece of architecture filled with art installations.
β Avenue of Stars
From K11 Musea, walk along the Avenue of Stars β Hong Kong's waterfront promenade dedicated to the Hong Kong film industry. The star plaques are fun, but the real draw is the unobstructed harbor view stretching from Wan Chai to Central. It's one of the best free spots in the city, and even better in the evening when the skyline lights up.
π‘ Pro Tip: The Symphony of Lights show runs every evening at 8:00 p.m. along Victoria Harbour. Watching it from the Avenue of Stars is free and worth timing your evening around.
Day 5: Last-Minute Shopping and Departure ποΈ
Your final day is for picking up anything you missed and making the most of the TST area before heading to the airport.
Tsim Sha Tsui is one of the best areas in Hong Kong for affordable pasalubong and souvenirs β from pharmacies stocking local beauty products to street-level shops selling snacks, skincare, and dry goods at prices you won't find at the airport. A dedicated video guide to the best shopping spots around TST is available below:

Getting Around Hong Kong: Transport Tips
Hong Kong's public transport is excellent β one of the best in Asia. Here's what to know:
- Octopus Card β Hong Kong's equivalent of the EasyCard. A reloadable contactless card that works on the MTR, buses, ferries, trams, and even at convenience stores and some restaurants. Pick one up at any MTR station on arrival. It's the single most useful thing you can have in your pocket the entire trip.
- MTR β The Mass Transit Railway is your primary way to get around. Fast, air-conditioned, and connects virtually every major area you'll visit on this itinerary including Tsim Sha Tsui, Disneyland (Sunny Bay transfer), and the Peak Tram lower terminus.
- A21 Bus β As mentioned above, this is the most budget-friendly option from the airport to Kowloon / TST. No need to book in advance β just tap your Octopus Card.

Final Thoughts
Hong Kong packs an enormous amount into a relatively small footprint β and that's exactly what makes it such a satisfying destination. Five days is enough to hit the big highlights, have unhurried meals, and still leave you with the feeling that there's more to come back for.
This itinerary gives you the structure. The rest is yours to fill in.
Hope this helps! More travels soon!
