Solo (Again) in Hong Kong: 10 Must-Eats From Causeway Bay to Central

Solo (Again) in Hong Kong: 10 Must-Eats From Causeway Bay to Central

A slow, solo Hong Kong trip built around 10 must-eat dishes โ€” roast goose, wonton noodles, sourdough egg tarts, and more.

Solo (Again) in Hong Kong: 10 Must-Eats From Causeway Bay to Central

Ganito lang 'yan! This wasn't my first time in Hong Kong, so I skipped most of the sightseeing checklist this trip. No rushing between attractions, no cramming the itinerary โ€” just a slow, solo pace built almost entirely around food. If you've already done the Peak, the Big Buddha, and Disneyland, this list is for you: the 10 dishes that made the trip worth it, all over again.

I based myself in Causeway Bay and worked my way through TST, West Kowloon, and Central/SOHO over a few days, eating whatever I was craving instead of whatever was "must-see." Here's everything, grouped by what you're actually in the mood for.

๐Ÿ– Roast Meats & BBQ

1. Dragon State Kitchen โ€” Suckling Pig & Roast Goose

Suckling pig and roast goose rice plate at Dragon State Kitchen, Central
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Central / SOHO area
  • ๐Ÿ• Best Time to Visit: Go a little after the lunch rush, around 1:30PM, to skip the queue
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: 2-way combo (suckling pig + roast goose) over rice
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: The 3-way combo would've brought the price down to around HK$72, but I wasn't interested in a third meat. Still, this felt like such a worthy visit on its own โ€” a genuine must-eat for me.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: Paid cash โ€” felt like a cash or Octopus card spot, but worth confirming on-site

2. Duddell's โ€” Roast Goose & Roast Pork

Crispy skin roast goose and roast pork with mustard sauce at Duddell's, HKIA
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Central, with a second location inside Hong Kong International Airport
  • ๐Ÿ• Best Time to Visit: Works well as a pre-flight meal if you're departing from HKIA
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: Roast goose + roast pork rice plate
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: The goose skin was crackling crisp with flavorful meat all the way through. The roast pork was just as crunchy and paired perfectly with the mustard sauce they served alongside it.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: Paid via credit card โ€” cash also appeared to be accepted

3. Duck Victoria โ€” Roasted Duck Wrap

Roasted duck wrap with crispy skin at Duck Victoria, Causeway Bay
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Tsim Sha Tsui / West Kowloon
  • ๐Ÿ• Best Time to Visit: Good for a sit-down lunch or dinner โ€” note the smallest order is half a duck, so it suits sharing or a bigger appetite
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: Roasted duck wrap, comes with plenty of wraps to go with it
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: The skin was crunchy, the meat flavorful โ€” no complaints at all. I've been going back to this spot ever since my friends and I randomly tried it a few years ago. Some places just stick with you.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: Paid via credit card

๐Ÿœ Noodles & Congee

4. Tsim Chai Kee โ€” Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup

Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup at Tsim Chai Kee, Central
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Central
  • ๐Ÿ• Best Time to Visit: Go outside peak lunch hours if you want to skip a wait โ€” it's a small, well-loved shop
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: Shrimp wonton noodle soup
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: The best wonton noodle soup I tried in Hong Kong โ€” better than Mak's Noodle, better than Ho Hung Kee. The broth and wonton flavor were exactly what I was craving.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: Cash only

5. Chee Kei โ€” Beef Satay Noodles

Beef Satay Noodles for Breakfast at Chee Kei, Causeway Bay
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Causeway Bay
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: Beef satay noodles
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: I originally wanted their shrimp wonton noodles, but a tip about the beef satay noodles pulled me in instead โ€” good call, especially for breakfast. At first taste it seemed like it might be too rich, but the broth balanced out just right. If you don't usually go for bold flavors first thing in the morning, this might not be your pick, but I really enjoyed it.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: Cash, Octopus, Alipay, or WeChat only

6. Cheung Hing Kee โ€” Shanghai Pan-Fried Buns

Shanghai Pan-Fried Buns at Cheung Hing Kee, TST
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Tsim Sha Tsui
  • ๐Ÿ• Best Time to Visit: Great as a quick, light meal any time of day โ€” good budget option between bigger meals
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: Shanghai pan-fried buns (xiao long bao style)
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: A pleasant surprise. These were seriously flavorful, and if you're keeping things light or budget-friendly, this is a great go-to.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: Octopus only

๐Ÿž Bakery & Snacks

7. Bakehouse โ€” Sourdough Egg Tart

Sourdough Egg Tart with Flaky Crust at Bakehouse, TST
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Causeway Bay, TST
  • ๐Ÿ• Best Time to Visit: Go earlier in the day for the best tart selection before items sell out
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: Sourdough egg tart
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: I also tried Hashtag B and Vission Bakery's egg tarts on this trip, but nothing came close to Bakehouse's version. Still my top pick.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: Paid via credit card

8. Tsui Wah โ€” Bread with Condensed Milk

Toasted Bread with Condensed Milk at Tsui Wah, Causeway Bay
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Multiple branches across Hong Kong (chain restaurant)
  • ๐Ÿ• Best Time to Visit: Reliable any time you need a quick snack or comfort food fix
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: Bread with condensed milk + HK milk tea
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: A place I always circle back to whenever I need a snack fix. The combo of the bread with condensed milk and a proper HK milk tea just hits the spot every time.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: [I don't remember how I paid sorry! but probably cash or octopus like other chains like this]

๐Ÿจ Desserts

9. Kai Kai Dessert โ€” Almond & Black Sesame Paste with Black Sesame Balls

Black Sesame Paste x Sweet Almond Soup Hot + Glutinous Balls at Kai Kai Dessert, Causeway Bay
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Causeway Bay
  • ๐Ÿ• Best Time to Visit: Great as an afternoon or after-dinner dessert stop, especially if you want it served hot
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: Almond Soup and black sesame paste, served hot, with glutinous balls added
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: I'm a big fan of almond soup on its own, but couldn't decide between that and black sesame, so getting the combo was the right call for me that day.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: Order and pay via QR code at the table โ€” credit card accepted

10. Tokachi Milky โ€” Ice Cream Cone with Macadamia

Original Cone with Macadamia at Tokachi Milky, TST
  • ๐Ÿ“ Location: Tsim Sha Tsui / West Kowloon
  • ๐Ÿ• Best Time to Visit: A nice mid-afternoon treat while exploring the West Kowloon area
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Highlight Dish: Ice cream cone with macadamia
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Notable Notes: Very milky, in the best way โ€” that distinct Japanese-milk flavor came through clearly. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณ Payment: [confirm before publishing]
