Solo (Again) in Hong Kong: 10 Must-Eats From Causeway Bay to Central
A slow, solo Hong Kong trip built around 10 must-eat dishes — roast goose, wonton noodles, sourdough egg tarts, and more.
Ganito lang 'yan! This wasn't my first time in Hong Kong, so I skipped most of the sightseeing checklist this trip. No rushing between attractions, no cramming the itinerary — just a slow, solo pace built almost entirely around food. If you've already done the Peak, the Big Buddha, and Disneyland, this list is for you: the 10 dishes that made the trip worth it, all over again.
I based myself in Causeway Bay and worked my way through TST, West Kowloon, and Central/SOHO over a few days, eating whatever I was craving instead of whatever was "must-see." Here's everything, grouped by what you're actually in the mood for.

1. Dragon State Kitchen — Suckling Pig & Roast Goose
- 📍 Location: Central / SOHO area
- 🕐 Best Time to Visit: Go a little after the lunch rush, around 1:30PM, to skip the queue
- 🍽️ Highlight Dish: 2-way combo (suckling pig + roast goose) over rice
- 💬 Notable Notes: The 3-way combo would've brought the price down to around HK$72, but I wasn't interested in a third meat. Still, this felt like such a worthy visit on its own — a genuine must-eat for me.

2. Duddell's — Roast Goose & Roast Pork
- 📍 Location: Central, with a second location inside Hong Kong International Airport
- 🕐 Best Time to Visit: Works well as a pre-flight meal if you're departing from HKIA
- 🍽️ Highlight Dish: Roast goose + roast pork rice plate
- 💬 Notable Notes: The goose skin was crackling crisp with flavorful meat all the way through. The roast pork was just as crunchy and paired perfectly with the mustard sauce they served alongside it.

3. Duck Victoria — Roasted Duck Wrap
- 📍 Location: Tsim Sha Tsui / West Kowloon
- 🕐 Best Time to Visit: Good for a sit-down lunch or dinner — note the smallest order is half a duck, so it suits sharing or a bigger appetite
- 🍽️ Highlight Dish: Roasted duck wrap, comes with plenty of wraps to go with it
- 💬 Notable Notes: The skin was crunchy, the meat flavorful — no complaints at all. I've been going back to this spot ever since my friends and I randomly tried it a few years ago. Some places just stick with you.

4. Tsim Chai Kee — Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup

- 🕐 Best Time to Visit: Go outside peak lunch hours if you want to skip a wait — it's a small, well-loved shop
- 🍽️ Highlight Dish: Shrimp wonton noodle soup
- 💬 Notable Notes: The best wonton noodle soup I tried in Hong Kong — better than Mak's Noodle, better than Ho Hung Kee. The broth and wonton flavor were exactly what I was craving.

5. Chee Kei — Beef Satay Noodles
- 📍 Location: Causeway Bay
- 🍽️ Highlight Dish: Beef satay noodles
- 💬 Notable Notes: I originally wanted their shrimp wonton noodles, but a tip about the beef satay noodles pulled me in instead — good call, especially for breakfast. At first taste it seemed like it might be too rich, but the broth balanced out just right. If you don't usually go for bold flavors first thing in the morning, this might not be your pick, but I really enjoyed it.

- 💬 Notable Notes: A pleasant surprise. These were seriously flavorful, and if you're keeping things light or budget-friendly, this is a great go-to.

- 🕐 Best Time to Visit: Go earlier in the day for the best tart selection before items sell out

- 💬 Notable Notes: I also tried Hashtag B and Vission Bakery's egg tarts on this trip, but nothing came close to Bakehouse's version. Still my top pick.

- 💬 Notable Notes: A place I always circle back to whenever I need a snack fix. The combo of the bread with condensed milk and a proper HK milk tea just hits the spot every time.

- 🍽️ Highlight Dish: Almond Soup and black sesame paste, served hot, with glutinous balls added
- 💬 Notable Notes: I'm a big fan of almond soup on its own, but couldn't decide between that and black sesame, so getting the combo was the right call for me that day.
